The dining room is utterly simple, with table, chairs and serving table designed by Cotswold Furniture Makers in Stowe. Soft curves of the furniture beautifully play off the vertical and horizontal lines of the architecture. There are no walls for paintings; the view is their art.

THE EASTERLY SIDE OF THE HOUSE is intimate and relaxed. The driveway rolls by deep green lawn and tree-shaded pond. Handsome stone walls step up to a large terrace and there are so many enticing places to walk it is hard to choose. The western side is sheer drama: From the blue-stone terrace, the burble of a falls from the Notch Brook can be heard. Directly ahead an unspoiled stretch of the Green Mountains marches into the distance, and to the northwest are the ski trails of Mansfield.
